Understanding NATA 2024

NATA Full form: National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA).

What is NATA: NATA, or the National Aptitude Test in Architecture, is an entrance exam conducted by the Council of Architecture (COA) in India for admissions to undergraduate programs [ B Arch (Bachelor of Architecture) ] in architecture. The exam evaluates a candidate’s aptitude and understanding of architecture and is widely accepted by government and private colleges for admission to their B. Arch programs across the country. It consists of two parts – Part A – Drawing and Composition Test – Offline Test, and Part B – MCQ – Computer based online Test which focuses on aesthetic sensitivity, logical reasoning, and general knowledge related to architecture. NATA 2024 is held on every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) this year.

NATA 2024 Exam Overview

The Council of Architecture (CoA) has been administering the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) since 2006. This exam is a qualifying test for individuals seeking admission into the Bachelor of Architecture program. In line with the CoA’s (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations from 1983 and its updated version in 2020, accredited by Central Government under Sections 21 & 45 of the Architects Act, 1972, candidates are required to pass an proficiency test – either through NTA’s Joint Entrance Examination or NATA coordinated by CoA.

However, final admissions are processed only by concerned authorities from specific states/UTs and institutions based on a valid NATA score and eligibility requirements as laid out by both CoA and respective authorities.

Distinct from other entrance exams, NATA stands out as an Aptitude test that gauges a candidate’s potential via diverse testing methods. It particularly measures an applicant’s aptitude in the specific study domain – Architecture. This evaluation is performed by scrutinizing cognitive capabilities, logical reasoning and sharpness of critical thinking, visual perception and aesthetic sensitivity tests among other criteria. The objective is to also appraise the knowledge a candidate has garnered over prior years.

The Council aims to provide greater opportunities for talented aspirants eager to plunge into the field of Architecture. Thus, for openings in B.Arch., during the academic year 2024-2025, it will conduct NATA-2024 on all weekends spanning from April through July 2024 across two sessions.

NATA Exam Dates 2024

In NATA 2024, candidates are permitted a maximum of three attempts within one academic year. The highest score across all attempts will be chosen for the declaration of results. Scores obtained in the NATA Test will remain valid for two academic years.

The exam is set to take place on every weekend starting April until July 2024, spread across two sessions depending on the number of registered candidates. While registering at the NATA portal www.nata.in, aspirants are required to specify their preferred session and city for the examination.

However, specific test sessions and centres shall be assigned by the Council taking into consideration preferences indicated by candidates in their application forms but ultimately, the decision made by Council regarding allocation of Test Centre and session will be final and binding.

The examination schedule is as provided below:

NATA Syllabus 2024

The medium of Aptitude test shall be in English and Hindi.

The aptitude of the candidate will be assessed using some or all of the following:

TOTAL MARKS: PART A & PART B = 200 MARKS

PART A – Drawing and Composition Test

This is one and half hour (90 minutes) – 80 Marks Test where candidate has to attempt three questions. The content of the PART A Test is as follows:

• A1 – Composition and Color -25 Marks: Creating suitable compositions for various situations and coloring them appropriately. Re-arranging various shapes in visually appealing manner And coloring it suitably.
• A2 -Sketching & Composition (Black and White)-25 Marks: Ability to draw, visualize, depict a situation, involving buildings / its components, people, environment, products with an understanding of scale, proportions, textures, shades and shadow etc.
• A3 – 3D Composition-30 Marks: Creating interesting 3D composition for the given situation using the provided kit.

PART B – MCQ – Computer based online Test

This is one and half hour (90 minutes), 120 Marks Test where candidate has to appear for online test. It shall have two type of Questions viz., B1 – 30 Questions of 2 Marks and B2 – 15 Questions of 4 Marks from the following topics:

• Visual Reasoning Ability to understand and reconstruct 2D and 3D composition, knowledge about its composition and technical concepts.
• Logical Derivation Ability to decode a situation, composition, context and generate meaning. Understanding the minute information hidden in a particular situation and drawing conclusions.
• G.K., Architecture & Design General awareness of architecture and design, current issues, recent episodes etc., Knowledge about important buildings, historical progression, innovation in materials and construction technology.
• Language Interpretation Ability to correctly & logically generate meaning of words, sentences, understanding about English grammar.
• Design Sensitivity Ability to observe record and analyze, people, space, product, environment. Critical thinking, reasoning and ability to identify the subtle communications.
• Design Thinking Ability to understand semantics, metaphors, problem identification and definition, analysis of a given situation.
• Numerical Ability Basic Mathematics and its association with creative thinking. To unfold a space with use of geometry.

NATA 2024 Eligibility Criteria

NATA 2024 Eligibility

To be eligible for NATA 2024, candidates need to meet the criteria outlined by the Council, which include:
i) Completion or current enrolment in a 10+1 Examination with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) subjects;
ii) Completion or current enrolment in a 10+2 Examination with PCM subjects; and
iii) Completion or current enrolment in a 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

While these conditions allow candidates to appear for NATA 2024, actual admission into B.Arch., courses will be determined based on additional eligibility requirements as laid out in the Council of Architecture’s (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 2020 and as stated further in para 5.2.

Candidates should keep in mind that NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) functions merely as an aptitude test qualifier for entry into B.Arch. programs proposed by various universities and institutions nationwide subject that all other specified eligibility criteria set forth by the Council are met.

It’s important to note that qualifying successfully through NATA-2024 does not automatically grant rights/Guarantee towards admission into any architectural course unless all mandatory conditions stipulated by their respective competent authorities, compliant with guidelines laid down by the council are fulfilled.

B.Arch Admission Eligibility 2024-2025

The eligibility criteria for enrolment into the 1st year of the B.Arch. Degree program for the academic session of 2024 -2025 will follow the Council of Architecture’s (CoA) (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 2020.

Under these revised regulations, the requirements are as follows: The candidate must have either passed a 10+2 level or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects and secured at least an aggregate score of 50% or completed a 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as a core subject maintaining an aggregate score minimum of at least another 50%.

Please note that these conditions are currently under proposed amendment and are awaiting approval from the Central Government. Any changes made to this set criterion will be promptly announced upon receiving approval.

NATA Application Form 2024

The NATA test shall be held on all Saturdays and Sundays starting from April to July, 2024 in two Sessions in the notified cities at the allotted Centres and the online form filling shall start from 1st March 2024.

Application Procedure

The decision to appear in the second or third test is entirely at the candidate’s discretion, and it is not a requisite. Candidates can register for one or up to three tests in an academic year by correctly filling out the application form.

The application process requires online submission via the NATA portal at www.nata.in. Here, candidates will need to create a username and password by providing relevant details. Then proceed by clicking on ‘ONLINE APPLICATION NATA–2024’, leading them directly to the actual form.

This interactive form is broken down into different subsections that streamlines input of required information. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory and must be completed; failure to do so will result in unsuccessful submission of your application.

The three main steps of the application form include:
i) Personal Detail entry
ii) Document Upload
iii) Fee Payment

Once personal details are filled, candidates will be guided through document uploading segment of their application. Following successful upload, proceed with payment of fees via FEE PAYMENT gateway made available. For records keeping purposes, taking a printout of CONFIRMATION PAGE generated upon payment being received successfully is recommended.There’s no need to send any documents by post.

How to Fill NATA 2024 Application Form

Step-1: Begin by navigating to the official NATA website. The direct link will be provided above in the information section.

Step-2: Spot and click on the “NATA 2024 Registration” link visible on the homepage of the site.

Step-3: Now, initiate your registration process by clicking on “New Registration.”

Step-4: Fill out all required fields in the presented form and press submit when finished.

Step-5: Using your newly created login details, sign in, and go ahead to complete application form with necessary details.

Step-6: Follow up by uploading scanned copies of required documents in their respective specified formats as mentioned.

Step-7: Proceed with online payment of specified application fee amount via an acceptable mode provided.

Step-8: Once fee is paid, spend a few moments previewing filled-out details carefully before submitting completed application form finally.

Step-9: Lastly, it’s recommended that you print a hardcopy or at least save a digital copy of submitted form for future reference or use where necessary.

NATA 2024 Application Fee

Note:

• The Application Fee shall be non-refundable in all cases.
• The candidates initially opting for single/ two tests may further opt for additional test at a later stage, not exceeding three attempts. However, in such case no concession in fees would be offered.
• Multiple Application Forms submitted by the same candidate by changing the credentials will be rejected without any refund. The Council reserves the right to take appropriate legal action against such candidates.

NATA 2024 Admit Card / Appointment Card

1. As per the schedule, each applicant will receive an Appointment Card for NATA 2024 which includes details such as allotted Test Centre, session time and Appointment number.
2. Candidates should download their Appointment Card’s soft copy available on the official website.
3. At the Test Centre specified on your card, you must present a hard copy of that card and an original photo identity card selected from Voter Card / Pan Card / Aadhar Card / Driving Licence / Passport as filled in the application form.
4. The photograph and signature printed on your Appointment card should be kept in pristine condition; any changes or damage even unintentional can lead to disqualification.
5. If a candidate presents distorted/soiled/mutilated cards at any point, they would not be allowed to appear for NATA-2024.
6. Post-NATA result declaration and completion of admission process, candidates are advised to keep their appointment cards safe without any damages until then.
7. Candidates who meet preliminary eligibility criteria are conditionally permitted to sit for NATA- 2024.
8. Any discrepancy found upon further scrutiny will result in cancellation of candidature – even if they’ve already sat for NATA- 2024 with provisional admittance granted based solely off looks like everything lined up right first glance!
9. Candidature may also be cancelled upon failure produce required original documents during counselling,/admissions stage at Universities & Institutions validating eligibility according other criteria pointed out earlier instructions given hereabouts too before now then onwards even future time still left yet unused untouched until said oversight noticed rectified finally once only when really absolutely necessary after all along anyway!

NATA 2024 Test Centre

1. The allocation of Test centres to candidates will depend on availability and will be determined based on choices of city, date, and session provided by the candidate.
2. All decisions regarding the allocation of test centres are at the Council’s discretion to ensure smooth administration of the exam.
3. Candidates opting for multiple tests have to generate new appointment cards for each successive test after previous test results are published.
4. Potential city-wise examination test cities can be found listed in APPENDIX-V.

NATA 2024 Result

Results will be available and declared on the website www.nata.in

Qualifying Criteria

The Qualifying Marks for the NATA 2024 would be based on the following Rules:

1. A minimum of 20 marks must be secured in PART A
2. A minimum of 30 marks must be secured in PART B
3. Overall qualifying marks for NATA 2024 shall be 70 marks out of 200 as aggregate of Part A and Part B.

A Candidate will not qualify in NATA-2024 unless all three conditions mentioned above are satisfied. In case the candidate appears in multiple tests, all the previous scores shall appear on the score card. The best score obtained in all attempts shall be taken as the valid score for NATA 2024.

Validity of NATA- 2024 Score

NATA- 2024 score shall be valid for two academic years from the year in which appeared.

APPENDIX-I (Procedures to be followed in the Examination at Test Centres)

A. The candidates will have to follow the time schedule as follows:

1. Report to the Examination Center by 9.00 am (1st Session) / 12.30 pm (2nd Session)
2. Opening gate to the examination hall at 9.15 am (1st Session) /12.45 pm (2nd Session)
3. Registration of candidate to be completed by 9.45 am (1st Session) /1.15 pm (2nd Session)
4. Closing gate to the examination hall at 10.00 am(1st Session) /1.30 pm (2nd Session)
5. Commencement of examination at 10.00 am (1st Session) /1.30 pm (2nd Session)
6. Duration of examination: 10.00 am to 1.00 pm (1st Session) / 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm (2nd Session)

Late entry of candidates will not be permitted in the examination hall after 10.15 am(1st Session) / 1.45 pm (Second Session) and no extra time shall be granted. Exit from the examination centre shall not be allowed before 1.00 pm (1st Session) / 4.30 pm (2nd Session).

B. Candidates must bring with them:

• Downloaded Original Appointment Card of NATA-2024.
• Original Proof of Identity- Aadhar/ Passport/ Driving License/ Voter ID/Valid Photo ID document.
• Pencils, erasers, dry colors, Scale (upto 15 Cms).

C. Candidates must show on demand the Appointment Card (NATA-2024) for entry to the Examination Hall. A candidate not possessing print out of the downloaded admit card and valid photo identity shall not be allowed to enter in the Examination Hall by the Center-inCharge.

D. Candidates found carrying any textual material, printed or written, bits of papers or any other material except those listed under Sl.No.2 inside examination Hall will be debarred from appearing the examination.

E. Mobile Phones, Bluetooth devices, Calculators, Slide Rules, Log Tables, Electronic Watches with facilities of Calculator are not allowed in the Examination Hall. Possession of such items during the Examinations may lead to cancellation of candidature.

F. Candidates shall be provided with paper for any rough work.

G. Candidates are required to perform / solve on the paper / base / material provided by the Test Centres only.

H. No candidate, without the special permission of the Centre-in-Charge, will leave his/her seat or Examination Hall until the duration of examination is over.

I. Candidates shall maintain silence during the examination. Any conversation or gesticulation or disturbance in the examination hall shall be deemed as misdemeanor. If a candidate is found adopting unfair means, his / her candidature shall be cancelled and he/she will be liable to be debarred from taking examination either permanently or for a period, to be decided by the Council of Architecture, according to the nature of offence.

J. Candidates shall abide by the advisories / guidelines / precautions as issued by the Government from time to time.

If any candidate is found indulging in any form of malpractice or using any unfair means during the examination, the candidature will be cancelled outright or the candidate may be debarred from appearing in NATA Examination for a period of one year depending on the nature of the malpractice. If any candidate is found impersonating the candidature will be cancelled outright and the concerned candidate / imposter will be handed over to the Police for prosecution. Further, the Council may also debar such candidates from appearing in NATA Examination for a period of 2 years. The Council’s decision in such cases is final. Approaching Office Bearers and Officials of the Council before / during / after the conduct of NATA for seeking any favor may entail disqualification.
